Green Bay Packers: Ten mid-round options in 2016 NFL Draft
TE Jerell Adams, South Carolina
Another tight end to keep an eye on is Jerell Adams out of South Carolina. Adams’ size is appealing, standing at 6-foot-5, 247 pounds. In a position of need, he would be worth a look by Green Bay.
Adams would not only give Aaron Rodgers another big target, but also one who can open up defenses down the field. He can attack the seam with his speed and create mismatches. Some of Adams’ best work comes after the catch, which is a trait Richard Rodgers lacks.
Holding him back is his athleticism and hands. While neither are bad, they’re not at the level of some other tight end prospects in the class. This could hurt his production from day one, but Adams is a player who could become a key piece on offense down the line.
Of course, that’s not what Packers fans want to hear. In an ideal world, Green Bay would sign a veteran tight end on a short-term deal to fill the immediate need, allowing them to draft a player like Adams to develop into his long-term replacement. Imagine a scenario in which the Packers added Bears’ tight end Martellus Bennett and Adams as a mid-round draft pick to groom.
