Chris Jones, Mississippi State

Chris Jones out of Mississippi State is a tough player to gage a round for. Early mocks had him falling in Rounds 5-6, but he seems to be rising quickly up draft boards now, with some valuing him as high as the second round. For now, let’s just look at what he could bring to Green Bay.

For starters, Jones is a huge man standing at 6-foot-6, 310 pounds. What could cause him to drop is that he is still quite raw. The physical tools are there to become a force along any defensive line, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. He plays with an elevated pad level too often which needs work.

But over time, Jones could become an excellent piece along the Packers’ defensive line. He is fast off the line of scrimmage and has the explosiveness to be disruptive in the backfield. He has the potential to become an excellent pass rusher.

Jones can take on double teams and help out against the run, which would help the Packers’ defense early on. He’s far from the finished product and wouldn’t make the day one impact the likes of Jarran Reed or Vernon Butler could make, but he’s definitely a player worth taking if he’s available in the mid-rounds.
