Green Bay Packers: What to expect with 27th pick in 2016 NFL Draft
DeAndre Hopkins
As per profootballreference.com:
College: Clemson (school history)/(Hopkins college stats)
Drafted by the Houston Texans in the 1st round (27th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Hopkins has become a special talent in this league. One can only imagine what this guy could be doing on the field if he were matched with a top 10 quarterback throwing him the ball.
That aside, he has still caught 239 balls in three seasons for 3,533 yards and 19 touchdowns. Last season was his best when he caught 111 ball for 1,521 yards … playing for the Houston Texans – not necessarily known as a high-powered offense.
No doubt, Hopkins was a steal at #27.
The Packers, in 2013, selected Datone Jones with the pick right before the Texans took Hopkins. Jones, who has been slow to emerge has been a disappointment for the Packers. In three years with the Packers, Jones has played in 44 games, but started only three. He has a grand total of 41 tackles and 17 assists. He has one interception in his career and eight sacks.
Those aren’t numbers one wants from a first-rounder, but Jones has another opportunity to prove himself as he enters his contract season in 2016.
