Round 3 (via Indianapolis): OLB Jordan Jenkins, Georgia

Another advantage of acquiring extra picks? You have more freedom to trade up later in the draft. In the third round, the Packers could turn to linebacker Jordan Jenkins to shore up the pass rush after trading up six spots with Indianapolis. In return, the Colts would get the Packers’ fifth round pick. With four selections in the fourth round, the Packers are still loaded with selections.

The draft is all about finding value, and if the Packers feel Jenkins can help the team then it’s worth making the move up. What they would be getting is an athletic, strong player suited to the outside linebacker position in a 3-4. He can get after the quarterback and also has the athleticism to hold up in coverage.

With Julius Peppers entering the final year of his contract (and possibly career) and Mike Neal’s future uncertain, the Packers need a talented, young prospect who can help the defense generate a more consistent pass rush. As a rookie, Jenkins could split time with Peppers who is expected to see his snap count drop. On the other side, Clay Matthews is set to be back in his natural position.
