Green Bay Packers seven-round mock draft post-free agency
Round 4: OT Cole Toner, Harvard
It’s not a fun pick but so essential. The Packers’ offensive line is crying out for depth after an injury-plagued season exposed Aaron Rodgers in the pocket. Starters David Bakhtiari, Bryan Bulaga and Corey Linsley all missed time and outside of JC Tretter, nobody was ready to step up and play well.
Bakhtiari and Tretter are both set to hit free agency in 2017, as are guards T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton. Ted Thompson is as good as any general manager at picking up talented offensive linemen on day three, and he could do the same again with Cole Toner out of Harvard.
Toner put together an impressive Senior Bowl after concerns with his ability to make the jump to the next level. He has great size at 6-foot-5, 306 pounds and has the potential to develop into a starting-caliber NFL tackle. As a rookie he would be able to sit on the sidelines and offer depth behind left tackle Bakhtiari and right tackle Bulaga. If Bakhtiari walks in free agency a year from now, Toner would be a candidate to take over the job.
