Round 4 (via San Diego): ILB Scooby Wright, Arizona

If tight end is the biggest need on offense, finding an inside linebacker is equally as important on defense. For the Packers to improve against the run and get Clay Matthews back outside, they must find a capable inside linebacker in the draft. Jake Ryan should improve as a second-year player and the return of Sam Barrington will help, but more talent is required.

Enter Scooby Wright III in the fourth round. Wright isn’t the greatest athlete, but he is a playmaker with great football IQ and toughness. He reads the game well and makes a lot of tackles, which sounds eerily familiar to an inside linebacker the Packers missed out on a couple of years ago. Rob Rang of CBSSports.com compared Wright to former 49ers linebacker Chris Borland:

"“Like the former 49ers standout, Wright is a better football player than athlete, winning with terrific instincts, generally reliable open-field tackling and a knack for producing big plays.”"

It’s possible the Packers target a player like Reggie Ragland earlier in the draft, but Ted Thompson could find value in the fourth round with Wright if he opts to shore up the defensive line and pass rush earlier.
