Tundra Tracker: Green Bay Packers stories you must read
WR James Jones
The Packers have plenty of depth at wide receiver, but there’s still plenty of question marks. Jordy Nelson is coming back from a torn ACL and is 30-years-old. Davante Adams gave no evidence in 2015 that he will be the boundary threat the Packers need. Jeff Janis and Jared Abbrederis impressed in the divisional round, but talk about a small sample size.
Like last year, the Packers appear to be comfortable with their young talent at wideout, but there would be no harm in bringing James Jones back to camp. Jones has a deep understanding of the playbook, and unlike many of the Packers’ receivers in 2015 he has the trust of Aaron Rodgers.
Jones was the Packers’ best receiver in 2015. He caught 50 passes for 890 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s not exactly Odell Beckham, but Jones proved he can still play, and he would be more comfortable further down the depth chart when he’s not blanketed by the opponents’ top cornerback. For now, it appears his age is the only reason he hasn’t been re-signed.
Whichever team lands Jones will benefit from his services, just as Oakland did in 2014. Maybe it’s Green Bay.
