Packers 2016 seven-round mock draft: Pass rush is the focus
Round 5 (146) from Jacksonville: WR Tajae Sharpe, Massachusetts
Thompson isn’t afraid to move up in the draft if there’s a target he likes. He made a similar move in last year’s draft to take Brett Hundley, swapping fifth-round picks with the Patriots and throwing in a seventh. The same situation occurs here with Jacksonville, although this time the target is wide receiver Tajae Sharpe.
The Packers have plenty of numbers at the receiver position, but also a lot of question marks. Although Jordy Nelson is expected to make a full recovery, he’s the wrong side of 30 and has a limited amount of time remaining at the top of his game. Green Bay hopes Davante Adams turns a corner in 2016, although there was limited evidence last term to suggest he will.
Ty Montgomery looked good before getting hurt, but Jeff Janis and Jared Abbrederis are still very much projects at this stage with a lot of work still to do. Adding another late-round wideout to compete with the current crop would make sense.
Sharpe has ideal height at 6-foot-2, is an excellent route-runner and has good speed and athleticism. He could be a steal for the Packers in the fifth round and could go onto become a productive receiver at the next level.
