Will quarterback, running back and wide receiver be considered?

Aaron Rodgers is in place with Brett Hundley behind him.

Eddie Lacy is in place with James Starks behind him.

Jordy Nelson will be back this coming season with a strong corps of other wide receivers behind him.

So, will Ted Thompson consider drafting a quarterback, running back or wide receiver this weekend?

Well, the short answer to the question is no … but …

Mike McCarthy has been known as the quarterback whisperer and the opportunity to draft yet another quarterback is always there. If Thompson does pull the trigger in this draft on a QB, don’t expect it before the fifth round. The Packers will rely solely on Rodgers and Hundley this season, but couuld look at a new prospect in camp as well.

Eddie Lacy becomes a free agent after the 2016 season and depending upon his production next season, the team may be looking for depth at the position. James Starks will most likely be gone after 2016, though he has a two-year contract. Again, his production in 2016 will determine whether he sticks beyond this season — it will also make a difference on whether Thompson looks to the draft for some young, fresh legs.

At wide receiver, the Packers have a full house … but we all know how quickly injuries can change that fact. We would hate to see the team thin at such an important position once again. We had our fill of disappointment at the position.

Don’t be surprised if Thompson looks for a wide receiver in the first three or four rounds of this draft. Again, like offensive linemen and cornerbacks — you can’t have enough of them.
