So, we start right away with #99 …
Over the past few years, #99 was worn by Michigan State alum Jerel Worthy, but in the past has been worn by others …
The number was worn last year by then- Bruce Gaston, a rookie defensive end out of Purdue.
It is currently being worn by Christian Ringo, a second-year player who spent last season on the practice squad.

In addition, we highly recommend “Packers by the Numbers: Jersey Numbers and the Players Who Wore Them,” by John Maxymuk. The book, which chronicles every Packers jersey number was published in 2003, so it may be a bit incomplete, but it provides a strong background of information about Packers players and their jersey numbers up to that point in time.
The first to wear number 99, according to Maxymuk, was Charles Johnson.
The author also considers Johnson one player to forget – he was drafted ahead of Joe Montana in the 1979 Draft.
“He was an undersized nose tackle who lasted until the end of Bart Starr‘s coaching career as a constant reminder of the consequences of making bad decisions.”
The longest tenured player to wear the number was John Dorsey – yes, that same John Dorsey who played linebacker for the Packers from 1984-88 and went on to work in the Packers scouting department for several years before moving into the Kansas City’s general manager’s seat when former Packers and Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid took over the Chiefs’ head coaching position last year.
