NFC North: Top Five fantasy sleepers
MARVIN JONES
Detroit’s prized free-agent addition enters an almost ideal situation given that no one in his or her right mind expects him to replace Calvin Johnson, but yet will play in a pass-happy offense that threw the ball a league-high 66-percent of the time.
That run-pass distribution doesn’t look to change much in 2016 as the Lions lack a true sustaining power back.
Jones could be the beneficiary of a vast amount of production that will need to be accounted for considering Megatron saw 24-percent of the team’s passing targets go his way in his final NFL season.
So the question remains: Is Jones up to the task? While the fifth-year veteran doesn’t provide Johnson’s size (not too many receivers do), he does use his six-foot-two, 200-pound frame to make plays in traffic and catch the ball at its highest point.
The last time the former Bengal played a full 16-game schedule, he caught 10-touchdown passes. There won’t be much standing in his way to quickly emerge as Matthew Stafford’s number-one red-zone go-to target with Golden Tate lacking the physical characteristics to fill that role along Eric Ebron’s slow development at tight end.
Next: A Green Bay Packer you should know?
Jones’ current ADP as the 89th overall pick suggests he’ll be available at the end of the seventh round in most leagues. That constitutes a potential bargain based on the fact that he will have the opportunity to post very similar numbers to Tate, who is being selected at the end of the third round as the 45th overall player.
