Green Bay Packers: Projected preseason two-deep depth chart
Left cornerback
Starter: Damarious Randall
When the Packers selected Damarious Randall with the 30th overall pick a year ago, there were more than a few eyebrows raised. Randall was listed as a safety, but few knew GM Ted Thompson’s vision.
Randall made the transition to cornerback and was one of the shining stars in the Packers defense. He made a host of crucial plays, from the game-winning pass breakup against San Diego to critical interceptions against Carolina and Oakland.
Randall made rookie mistakes, none more important than his blown coverage of Larry Fitzgerald in the play that all but ended the Packers season at Arizona, but the positives far outweighed the negatives. If Randall makes the second year jump many expect him to, he has star potential.
Backup: LaDarius Gunter
The Packers’ fourth cornerback spot is up for grabs, but Demetri Goodson’s four-game suspension gives the edge to LaDarius Gunter.
Gunter’s body of work in the NFL is still small, featuring in only eight games with two total tackles, but the Packers like what they have in the 2015 undrafted free agent. At 6-foot-2, 201 pounds, Gunter has good size for the position but will need to make big strides this year.
Next: Right cornerback
