Left guard

Starter: Josh Sitton

Josh Sitton has it all going for him in 2016. The guy is reported to be in the best shape of his career, having taken the Eddie Lacy approach to the offseason by losing excess poundage that may have slowed him in the past and contributed to injuries.

Sitton, who is a perennial Pro-Bowler at his position, teams up with T.J. Lang (see below) to form one of the best, if not the best guard tandem in the entire league.

The guy is nearly flawless in the run game and is one of the toughest linemen to get by for defensive opponents. His work over the years has been stellar. Given the fact that his contract is up after this season is sure to motivate the nine-year veteran. Will Ted Ted Thompson dip into the team’s bank account to re-ink him to a long-term contract? That’s a question only Thompson could answer at this point. The GM will have to balance the cost with how much gas he thinks Sitton still has in the tank. Stay tuned on that front.

Backup: Lane Taylor

Lane Taylor has been learning the past couple of seasons and has found himself riding the pines behind Sitton and Lang. Though he has seen limited action, his value to the team was seen by Thompson as pretty high – and Thompson rewarded Taylor by signing him to a contract extension that will keep him in Green Bay through the 2017 season.

Could that extension be a hint that Thompson wants to keep his own promising linemen, especially given the fact that Bakhtiari, Sitton and Lang are all free agents after this upcoming season?

At 6-3, 324 pounds, Taylor fits the physical parameters for the Packers, but his skills still remain somewhat of a mystery. Expect to see a lot of Taylor in preseason. The coaches and fans will be watching him closely.
