Green Bay Packers: Top 15 veterans who are 25 and under
3. Damarious Randall, CB
The former first-round pick has the loose hips and straight-line speed to stay in a receiver’s back pocket in pass coverage. The Arizona State product beat out Casey Hayward for his job in the starting lineup and performed reasonably well by using his anticipatory skills to make good reads and jump routes.
As the season wore on, however, Randall started giving up plays to the opposition with greater frequency. He, in fact, surrendered 12.5 plays of 20 yards or more, according to JSOnline, which hadn’t been done by a Packers cornerback in four years.
Are Randall’s late-season struggles attributable to the annual grind of an NFL schedule that the first-year pro hadn’t grown accustomed to?
That sounds like a logical explanation, but Randall will need to place more attention to detail to prevent being targeted by quarterbacks.
Randall’s movement skills, aforementioned instincts and versatility to cover the slot should allow him to be one of this unit’s top playmakers.
