Geronimo Allison, WR

Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis and Ty Montgomery grab most of the attention when discussing the Packers wide receiver situation, but there’s an additional name to add to the mix. Don’t count out undrafted rookie Geronimo Allison.

Towering at 6-foot-3, the wideout from Illinois has made coaches double take, earning glowing reviews from reporters. Of those is ESPN’s Jason Wilde:

"“At 6-foot-3 and 202 pounds, his body type is different than those of the Packers’ other receivers, and he has already caught quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ eye with his smooth route running, sure hands and quiet, eager-to-please approach.”"

To say these four preseason games are huge for the rookie pass-catcher would be a major understatement. With a crowded wide receiver room already, leapfrogging one of thee established names will take a monumental effort.

Allison needs to make himself impossible to cut and too good for the practice squad. He can begin this process against Cleveland. A flawless performance at Lambeau Field will add to what is becoming an impressive body of work at training camp.

The fact Allison went undrafted shouldn’t put off the Packers. If he outperforms his fellow receivers, he’ll earn a spot on the roster. To make it happen, a strong performance in preseason is a must.
