Third round (3-93): CB Rasul Douglas, West Virginia

Fans of Richard Sherman’s coverage awareness and ability to anticipate plays—and no, I wasn’t referring to the four-time Pro Bowler’s ridiculous and way-too-frequent rants—can appreciate Douglas’ instincts to aggressively break on the ball and dive in front of pass catchers to deflect passes or even pick them off.

In fact, the redshirt junior’s ball skills are second to none in that the 2015 JUCO transfer was not only tied for the lead in interceptions (8) during his senior campaign, but he also plays with the kind of mentality that every ball in the air is just as much his as it is the receiver’s.

While Douglas specialized in employing exceptional bail technique in defending opponents during his days in Morgantown and Nassau Community College, the New Jersey-born cover man exhibited his versatility to apply press-man coverage during Senior Bowl practice sessions as well.

And at 6-foot-2 with 32 1/8” arms, this unique physical specimen has the attributes to match up with bigger receivers and prevent them from coming down with 50-50 jump balls.

Douglas’ primary weakness is his inability to stay low in his backpedal, which can knock him off balance at times. But that issue can be adequately addressed with the proper coaching.

What can’t be taught is Douglas’ natural ball-hawking skills.
