In this week’s Tundra Talk podcast, host Joe D’Aloisio is joined by Lombardiave.com staffers Dan Dahlke and Ralph Mancini who were on hand to talk about a number of off-season topics ranging from the NFL Draft to the Green Bay Packers’ running game.

With the painful loss in the NFC Championship to the Atlanta Falcons still fresh in our rear view mirror and the memory of one of the best Super Bowls ever still being talked about, the Green Bay Packers head into the depths of the offseason.

And for an off-season that came so abruptly and unexpectedly for the team and it legion of fans, the future at this point is still murky and unknown.

Packers GM Ted Thompson was quick to part ways a week or so ago with players we all expected probably wouldn’t be members of the team’s 2017 roster.

James Starks and Sam Shields suffered head injuries this past season and both were expected to be released.

Thompson made those moves a reality rather quickly.

So how do the Packers go about restocking through the NFL Draft and free agency?

Dahlke and Mancini, Lombardiave.com’s premier draft gurus, have some ideas, but are still wondering whether Packers GM Ted Thompson goes offense or defense with his first round selection.

Thompson’s been known to go in the opposite direction from a team’s perceived needs in the past, so why would this draft be any different?

Dahlke and Mancini explore the options.

Tied to the draft and mostly free agency this week was the topic of the Packers’ running game. The team has already said they are committed to moving ahead with Ty Montgomery as one of their running backs, but what to do with Eddie Lacy? The free agent has not yet been re-signed and there are indications that he may be allowed to test the free agent market.

That said, most of the scuttlebutt this week surrounded the question of whether the Packers should go after Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Would that be a good move by Green Bay or should they attempt to re-sign Lacy – even if it’s on a single-year contract?

Because it’s the time of year when speculation about free agency and the NFL Draft is king, this podcast also includes our speculation on the topics. Dreaming about who would be the best player to add to the roster – either through the draft or free agency – is also explored here.

In addition to looking at the impact that these moves will make, D’Aloisio, Mancini and Dahlke also factor in the other pending free agents that Thompson must make decisions about.

Defense wins championships and because the Green Bay Packers’ defense took a terrible turn for the worse as the 2016 season progressed, the call for GM Ted Thompson to do something about it has intensified.

Though it’s impossible to know what’s going on in the head of the Packers’ GM, we have to expect that cornerback and even defensive line or linebacker might be a focus of the draft once again this spring.

With all that in mind, the staffers from Lombardiave once again take to the airwaves to describe who they feel would be good fits for Green Bay.

If Thompson goes offense, are there running backs or offensive linemen he may target? Do the Packers need depth at wide receiver?

Dahlke, Mancini and D’Aloisio will describe what they see as the team moves ahead with free agency and planning for the draft.
