Nick Perry

Perry is going to cost more than Ted Thompson is willing to pay, but he may have no choice. With Julius Peppers’ likely departure paired with Datone Jones’ uncertain status and Clay Matthews’ regression, the Packers are thin when it comes to bodies rushing the passer.

That’s why re-signing Perry is a priority. In a one-year “prove it” deal, Perry posted a career-best and team-leading 11 sacks. Without him, the need at the position only grows further, and the Packers pass rush would suffer as a result.

While re-signing everyone is unlikely, the Packers have enough resources to make Perry a priority and ensure he returns to Green Bay.

Does he come with a risk given his extensive injury history? Of course, but it’s a gamble the Packers have to take. Ted won’t want to make the same mistake as a year ago when he let Casey Hayward walk. Easy to say in hindsight, I know, but allowing Perry to leave would pose similar risks.

I think Ted gets a deal done, but it won’t be cheap.

Prediction: Re-signs with the Packers
