Datone Jones

Datone Jones isn’t a flashy player and won’t be lighting up any highlight reels in the near future, but he put together a solid 2016 campaign.

Jones isn’t the first-round bust many label him as, but it’s fair to say he hasn’t fully met expectations. The Packers declined his fifth-year option a year ago making him a free agent now. He’ll likely sign a short-term, “prove it” style contract similar to the one Nick Perry penned last spring.

With more of a role to play at outside linebacker, the Packers can’t afford to let too much talent leave the building. Julius Peppers likely won’t return, and Perry is going to demand plenty of cash, although I do expect him back.

Jones should join him. He won’t post double-digit sacks anytime soon, but he’s a valuable asset to Dom Capers’ defense and should return on a team-friendly deal.

Prediction: Re-signs with the Packers
