Green Bay Packers: Re-picking each selection in the 2016 NFL Draft
By Ryan Schlipp
Round 4: Jordan Howard, RB, Bears
Best player available: Jordan Howard, RB, Bears
Best player at the same position: Dean Lowry, DL, Packers
For the third time, the best player available at the same position is the player the Packers picked. In some cases it’s by default but in the case of Lowry it was actually just a very good pick. Lowry is probably one of the most underrated and under-appreciated players on the team.
Similar to Kenny Clark, Lowry found his way onto the field more and more every week until the end of the season when he became a regular in the rotation. Although a late fourth-round pick, Lowry was graded by PFF as their second-highest performing rookie, nearly matching Clark’s production. But enough about Lowry.
As much as it pains me to give respect to the Bears twice in one article, Howard is far and away the best available player. Although going into 2016 with Eddie Lacy would have made the pick seem like a waste, going into 2017 without him would have made Howard a fantastic pick.
Another guy that is definitely underrated, Howard stunned a lot of people when he took the reins in Chicago. Rated as a top-10 back by PFF, Howard totaled 252 carries for 1,313 yards (5.2 avg), and six touchdowns. He also proved to be a pretty solid receiving threat adding 29 receptions for 298 yards and an additional touchdown.
