Packers 2017 Draft: A case for each position in the first round
By Dan Dahlke
We are only two weeks away from the 2017 NFL Draft, and at this point, we’ve heard all of the names connected to the Green Bay Packers in the first round.
At pick 29, many of the national draft pundits have repeatedly projected Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, Wisconsin outside linebacker T.J. Watt, or any of the numerous first-round cornerbacks to the Packers.
Recently, even former FSU running back Dalvin Cook and Western Kentucky guard Forrest Lamp have been hot names in mock drafts for the Packers.
We’ve all heard the same prospect names over and over for months now. It’s pretty clear who Green Bay will get a chance at drafting with the 29th overall pick. However, we all know Ted Thompson and how unpredictable his front office can be.
He may not even use the Packers first pick on a position of major need, so don’t be surprised if when Green Bay’s on the clock on April 27th you hear the name of a player who is not a cornerback, edge rusher, running back, or offensive lineman.
With all of this in mind, it’s good to take a look at all of the different directions the Packers could go with their first pick in the draft. We know it probably won’t be a quarterback, kicker, punter, or fullback (at least I don’t think so, but we are talking about Ted Thompson here).
However, the rest of the positions could be fair game in the first round. With this in mind, let’s take a look at the Packers’ first-round options at each position on the roster.
