Potential Super Bowl Preview: Packers at Steelers, Week 12

There are a lot of similarities with Pittsburgh and Green Bay. Both are storied franchises with numerous stars throughout their rosters. Both have loyal fan bases. Both have a great home field advantages.

Under Mike Tomlin, the Steelers are almost always in playoff contention, similar to what Mike McCarthy has achieved in the land of cheese.

Another tough road game for the Packers this year. One of many.

The Steelers always seem to reload their stingy defense during the Tomlin era even though their defense wasn’t as potent last year as it has been in the past. They still come to play and will be fast to the ball as they try to hit you into next week.

Their offense on the other hand boasts arguably the NFL’s best running back in Le’Veon Bell, the best wide receiver in Antonio Brown and a Super Bowl-winning QB in Ben Roethlisberger. That makes for a defensive coordinator’s nightmare.

Dom Capers will have to decide how to slow down the multi-faceted offensive juggernaut listed above. You could plan to take Bell out of the game but then you leave Brown single covered. That’s a mistake. Double Brown and Bell will run through and past most defenses. Try to take both players out of the game?  Big Ben will hit other weapons like Eli Rodgers, Sammie Coates, Martavis Bryant or Darrius Heyward-Bey.

The Packers will be playing yet another Super Bowl contender in Pittsburgh. It will showcase two great offenses. This will be the Packers’ chance to prove their worth against a quality AFC opponent.

When I think of Packers vs. Steelers I reflect back to the last Super Bowl the teams were in together in Dallas. It was one of the most watched Super Bowls in NFL history.

This game could be a preview of a possible SB 52 matchup.
