Take a look at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and it’s easy to consider some of the top draft picks made by the Green Bay Packers since the draft was started way back in the 1930s.

You’ve got the likes of Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung, Tony Canadeo, Jim Ringo, Dave Robinson and James Lofton, as well as a slew of others who could be considered as the top draft picks by this storied franchise.

But when it comes down to ranking the top five players the team has taken over the years, the job of winnowing the list is excruciatingly difficult. We’re splitting hairs here and taking the leap of faith with the players who we feel have impacted the franchise the most and have had the most productive careers.

There will be plenty to debate: You won’t find Brett Favre on this list, mainly because he wasn’t drafted by the Packers.

But then again, you won’t find James Lofton or Jerry Kramer or Jim Taylor. Not because they might not deserve it, but because there are players on this short list who have done more with their careers and for the franchise as a whole.

As we move onto these pages, I will let you know that there wasn’t a whole lot of computing of numbers to come up with this ranking. These are subjective picks … those I alone chose from a list of about 20 potentials that were considered.

You can debate the value of putting together a list like this that has been subjectively chosen, but if you have strong arguments about who might be added and who should be deleted, start the discussion below in the comments section.

So, without further ado, here is how we roll today.

Enjoy …
