5. Trade down out of the first round

This may realistically be the most logical move for Thompson to make, but it still qualifies as rather bold given the needs the Packers have on defense and the players likely to be available at the end of round one.

It’s certainly possible that one of the top five quarterbacks are still on the board at 29, which would give a quarterback-needy team that passed on a signal caller in the top 10 the desire to jump back into the first round.

Freddie has already taken a good look at some of the Packers’ potential trade partners should they decide to move down in that kind of scenario.

Moving back would likely give Thompson and Co. an additional second round pick in the top 10 of day two, plus probably another fourth at least. That would give Green Bay two picks in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and two in fifth.

With the depth at cornerback, running back and edge rusher in this year’s class, those extra mid-round picks could be crucial to adding both starters and competitive depth across the board.
