Dan Dahlke: Packers select Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida

While I’d love an explosive pass rusher here like Charles Harris, Takk McKinley, or Derek Rivers, I think the Packers will use this selection to find a legitimate No. 1 cornerback. There’s a chance Tre’Davious White and Marlon Humphrey could be the guy here, but ultimately I think they’ll land former Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson.

Personally, I’d love this pick. While I’ve viewed Wilson as a top-20 prospect throughout the draft process, there’s a strong possibility he’ll slide to the end of the first round. The NFL puts a premium on speed and Humphrey, White, and Gareon Conley all ran in the 4.4 range.

A guy like Kevin King could also leapfrog Wilson on the first because of his impressive workout numbers, even though I view Wilson as the far better player and smarter long term investment.

What’s getting overlooked here with Wilson is he wins with size (6-1, 211), length, fluid hips, and excellent change of direction ability (4.02 shuttle). He’s one of the top press-man cover corners in the class and he also possess tremendous ball skills. He’d give the Packers another tall, physical boundary cornerback to lineup opposite Davon House.
