With the 2017 NFL Draft concluding, the Green Bay Packers’ focus turns to the undrafted rookies. Keep track of everyone they sign below.
The draft process is very much the calm before the storm. Now begins the undrafted free agency frenzy. Like a player who didn’t get drafted? Well guess what, so did a number of teams, and now you’ve got to compete for his signature.
The Packers have found success in undrafted free agency in the past. Sam Shields rose from undrafted in 2010 to Green Bay’s No. 1 cornerback in just a few years. Tramon Williams went undrafted and eventually landed in Packers News after a brief spell in Houston.
Wideout Geronimo Allison, who shone as as rookie last year, was picked up in undrafted free agency. Safety Kentrell Brice and defensive tackle Brian Price were signed after the 2016 NFL Draft by Green Bay. All three players are examples of undrafted players who can make the roster and contribute as rookies.
The Packers have been a good landing spot historically for undrafted rookies as they are given a great opportunity to make the team. Expect another strong number of signings this year.
The odds of landing a superstar after the draft may be unlikely, but it’s not impossible. Just ask Tony Romo. What you can find, however, is a valuable depth piece like Allison. The Packers will be on the hunt for talented young players who can compete for spots along the roster this summer, and also contribute on special teams.
We’ll be keeping on top of each reported signing and posting it in the list below. Stay tuned and keep refreshing this page as it will be updated regularly.
