Wide receivers (7)

Wide receivers: Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison, DeAngelo Yancey, Trevor Davis, Malachi Dupre

Ted Thompson is constantly on the hunt for new wide receivers, and he’s selected at least one pass catcher in every draft since 2012. Thompson picked up two new faces this year, igniting competition for roster spots.

First let’s look at the locks. Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams lead the way. The two combined for 2,254 yards and 26 touchdowns last year. Adams, considered a potential cut candidate a year ago, is now cemented as one of the team’s top receivers.

Randall Cobb isn’t going anywhere, and he still has plenty to offer as a slot receiver, returner or even running back in appropriate situations.

The rest is fair game. A group of Geronimo Allison, DeAngelo Yancey, Trevor Davis, Malachi Dupre and Jeff Janis will battle it out for the remaining three or four spots on the roster. I have Janis missing out, as he’s failed to make a significant impact on offense through three years.

Davis sticks around as the Packers might want to give him some time to develop, and I also expect rookies Yancey and Dupre to make the cut. Both young receivers have good size, but had to deal with poor quarterback play in college. Their development will be an interesting talking point in camp.
