Tight ends: Martellus Bennett, Lance Kendricks, Richard Rodgers

One of the biggest offseason surprises was the makeover at tight end. Out goes Jared Cook, in comes Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks, which on the surface gives the Packers an upgrade at the position.

What it will allow Mike McCarthy to do is use the ’12’ personnel more frequently. As Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire explains, the benefits can’t be understated:

"“Bennett and Kendricks are both willing blockers along the line of scrimmage and capable receivers down the field. Defenses have to make a choice: Either keep more linebackers on the field to defend the run or bring on an extra defensive back to help cover the receiving options. The ability to dictate matchups with personnel could be a big boost for Rodgers and the Packers, especially in short-yardage situations and in the red zone.”"

Bennett and Kendricks should both see plenty of the field in 2017, with Richard Rodgers offering some depth behind them. The position is in the best shape it’s been since Jermichael Finley was catching passes from Aaron Rodgers.
