Inside linebackers (3)

Inside linebackers: Blake Martinez, Jake Ryan, Joe Thomas

Not much has changed at inside linebacker for the Packers, who could roll with just three on ‘paper’. Clay Matthews and Vince Biegel can be asked to shift inside if necessary, so the trio of Blake Martinez, Jake Ryan and Joe Thomas is fine.

Green Bay is without a star at this position, but these three are solid contributors. Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel weighed in on Jake Ryan shortly after the conclusion of the 2016 season.

"“As a stopgap, Ryan has been adequate. Of the nine LBs, he was No. 1 in tackles per snap (one every 6.9). He loves to compete, even in games when the Packers were assured of losing. He does attack the line of scrimmage, and had six tackles for loss in the first eight games. He had only two thereafter.”"

Blake Martinez’s development entering his second year will be interesting to follow over the summer, but we can expect more of the same at inside linebacker for the Packers in 2017.
