Green Bay Packers: Top 10 fantasy rookie rankings in NFC North
8. Stacy Coley, WR, Vikings
Kudos are in order for the Vikings’ front office in addressing their lack of pure speed in their wide-receiver corps by not only drafting USF’s Rodney Adams in the fifth round, but then adding to their offensive firepower by nabbing Coley two rounds later.
Both wideouts are similarly sized in both height and weight, as well as possessing 4.4 speed to be factors as deep threats and in the return game.
So, what makes this writer higher on Coley’s prospects in 2017?
Quite simply, the University of Miami product has better hands, as evidenced by his 166 career receptions, which rank him second all-time among Hurricane receivers.
Adams, on the other hand, while dynamic as a downfield vertical threat, has had issues with his ball security. His inability to hold onto the ball could partially be attributed to his relatively small 9-inch hands.
Conversely, one of Coley’s primary strengths is his ball-tracking prowess to pull in over-the-shoulder deep balls.
That quality will help him immensely as the field stretcher in multiple receiver sets in which he will be counted on to clear room for Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and company.
Coley projects as a 14 or 16-team deep-league option whose deep-ball potential can provide added value if long touchdown are credited with additional points.
