Green Bay Packers news: No, we don’t want you either, Jay Cutler
Over the past week we’ve seen a number of news reports about a former Chicago Bear and one of the most-appreciated quarterbacks ever to have played against the Green Bay Packers.
Most noteworthy for Packers fans the past couple of days were Jay Cutler’s comments about his former rivalry with the team from the NFL’s smallest city.
If you didn’t see it, Cutler was basically asked whether he would ever consider coming out of retirement and his response was no, even if the Green Bay Packers came calling.
I’m not sure if that’s a backhanded compliment or not, but as a Packers fan, no, I wouldn’t want Cutler in the Green and Gold either.
We will have to stand by and wait for his appearance in the broadcast booth or on the field or wherever he’s going to be placed for that job.
We can only wish the best for Cutler … the guy who was always so generous to the Green Bay Packers over the years.
More than 20 times Cutler was rushed, pushed and harassed into throwing the ball up for grabs.
Like former Packers cornerback Charles Woodson said way back when … that it wasn’t a matter of if, but WHEN Cutler would unleash a ball ripe for the picking. He basically said that the Packers would just lay in waiting for that special moment.
Cutler, who was 3-10 against Green Bay while in Chicago, also added another loss to the Packers when he was at Denver.
In all, he would throw 22 interceptions to the Packers.
Ironically, in his final game against Green Bay, Cutler came away with a 17-13 win – the Thanksgiving night game where the Packers retired Brett Favre‘s number. In that game, Cutler didn’t throw an interception.
Twice Cutler threw four interceptions against Green Bay. The first four-pick game against the Packers came on Sept. 13, 2009, at Lambeau Field. The Packers won that game, 21-15. Getting picks in that game were Nick Collins, Al Harris, Tramon Williams and none other than the svelt Johnny Jolly.
The other four-pick game came again on Sept. 13, this time in 2012 in a 23-10 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field. Nabbing the INTs that night were Charles Woodson, two by Tramon Williams and another by Jerron McMillian (remember him?).
Though Cutler never had a three-pick game against the Packers, he did have five double-pick games and four single-pick games.
As Cutler sails into his retirement and into the broadcasting field, we wish him the best, but will miss Ol’ Jay and his turnover specialties.
That said, we’ve copied a video below of all the interceptions Jay Cutler has thrown in the past against the Packers. Though you may have seen this before, take a look again. It might just be the best nine minutes you spend today.
Until September when we can say hi to Jay Cutler again, we say thanks for the memories, Jay. You will be forever loved by fans of the Green Bay Packers.
