Packers vs. Seahawks, Week 1

Why it’s important

The first game of any season is important, especially when playing a perennial playoff contender like Pete Carroll‘s Seahawks.

A lot of people may remember this newly-born rivalry (can we call it a rivalry?) by the tough losses given to the Packers at Centurylink Field in Seattle.  The NFC Championship and “fail Mary” losses are definitely hard to forget.

Nevertheless, it is the Packers that have won the past two meetings against Seattle.  That being said, Pete Carroll will definitely have his team fired up and gunning for his first victory at Lambeau Field.

Last time the two teams met

The Packers destroyed the Seahawks, 38-10, in week 14 of the 2016 season.

In the midst of Aaron Rodgers’ MVP-caliber 2016 season, he threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He wasn’t needed much on this Sunday afternoon at Lambeau.  The defense did most of the work on that day.

Yes, this was the very same defense that got eviscerated by Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins. Russell Wilson couldn’t stop throwing the ball to the Green Bay defensive backs, as the Packers ended up with five interceptions on the day.  The defensive line came up big as well, with three sacks.  Hey, even a broken clock is always right twice a day.

Score Prediction

Packers:35  Seahawks 27

The Packers come out of the gates with the offense clicking on all cylinders. Rodgers utilizes all of his receivers, who prove to be too much for the “Legion of Boom” that is no longer as dangerous as past seasons.

This Seahawks team is not at the same level of the squad that broke Green Bay hearts in the 2014 NFC Championship Game.  They don’t have Marshawn Lynch, and their star tight end Jimmy Graham is not the same player he once was.

Russell Wilson makes plays with both his arm and his legs, but his Lambeau woes continue for at least one more season.  The Packers get a late takeaway from the newly-refurbished defensive secondary, and start the season 1-0 a week before a big game at Atlanta.
