Green Bay Packers 2017 Roster: Breaking down the running backs
By Dan Dahlke
Position Overview
At the start of camp, Montgomery will get the first opportunity to be the Packers’ starting running back.
However, considering his injury history and inexperience at the position, rookies Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones could challenge him for playing time.
Williams in particular has the look of an every-down running back in the NFL. He’s a tough, downhill runner who can handle a full game’s workload.
Ideally, the Packers will intermix Montgomery and Williams in the backfield, featuring each in schemes that favor the situation and matchups on the field. Montgomery is a versatile offensive weapon, while Williams is more of bruising one-cut back who can wear down a defense.
Jones is also dynamic and could provide a good change of pace. His receiving ability may even earn him some snaps in passing situations.
The Packers have plenty of young depth in the backfield. With training camp only weeks away, it will be interesting to see how the position will play out this summer.
Lets take a closer look at each player’s chance of making the 53-man roster.
