Jamaal Williams

Ty Montgomery is the undeniable starter at running back. Behind him, Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones, and Devante Mays provide the depth behind Montgomery. The standout among that group is Williams.

Williams has the potential to become the team’s starting running back down the road. The stocky runner has an old-school skill set that suits him well. Williams has the ability to be a good all around player in the NFL due to his strong fundamentals. While Jones and Mays figure to be intriguing options behind Montgomery as well, Williams is the player to keep a close eye on.

Williams’ skill set gives Mike McCarthy an important tool to use out of the backfield. While he will not blow you away with speed or agility, he is a bruising, tough runner who will stick his nose right into the hole in short yardage situations.

This draft pick was especially important considering Montgomery’s inexperience at the position. The receiver-turned-running back looked like a polished running back in his time as the team’s starter, but it was important for Ted Thompson to add an old fashioned, fundamentally sound running back as an insurance policy and possible starter down the road.
