Since the first day of training camp, it has been apparent Montgomery is no longer a running back-wide receiver hybrid. He has also put on some weight this offseason, getting him up to 224 pounds.
Mike McCarthy explained how he views Ty Montgomery as “the full threat,” via an interview with NFL Network‘s Tom Pelissero.
"“He’s the full threat. [Montgomery] can obviously run it, he can catch it, he can displace and run routes and catch it,” McCarthy said. “He just needs the reps in pass protection, because he’s actually really high in ability for pass protection. That guy’s a stud now. He’s got it in his body. He’s a very good young player.”"
Montgomery is also no stranger to the attention he is getting. He definitely believes in himself as much as anyone does.
The battle between Montgomery and the rookie Jamaal Williams will certainly be one to continue to watch, but number 88 certainly has taken a step forward since the end of last season.
