4. It may be time to worry about Jahri Evans

Evans has had a great career, but with considerable mileage on his battered 34-year-old frame, he isn’t the physical force he was five years ago. But can he be good enough as a stop-gap option?

The long-time Saint struggled mightily against Sheldon Richardson, who continually dominated the right guard.

When a player with that much experience is getting repeatedly beaten like that, it isn’t typically due to poor technique, but rather diminishing physical ability.

In all fairness, Richardson is a uniquely skilled defensive lineman that is easily a top-10 talent at his position when he’s properly motivated.

It should also be pointed out that Evans performed well in his last season in black and gold, particularly in pass protection where he ranked 20th among guards in the area of pass blocking, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).

The jury is out on Evans, but one has to wonder if spending some extra dollars to bring back either T.J. Lang or J.C. Tretter might have been the way to go.
