Packers Martellus, BennettDavante Adams and Brett Hundley posted tweets and retweeted today in response to the Twitter maelstrom brought about when Golden State Warrior Steph Curry tweeted that he wouldn’t be attending a visit to the White House and after President Donald Trump scolded the NFL during a rally yesterday in Huntsville, Ala..

Trumps said the NFL was soft for its stance on player protests and that league owners should fire players for their decision to kneel during the National Anthem.

Bennett, most notably the team’s Twitter king, was silent earlier in the day, but later posted a series of blistering tweets on the subject this afternoon.

Bennett raised his fist during the National Anthem prior to the start of the Packers season-opening game at Lambeau Field to demonstrate solidarity with those who had protested in the past.

His cutting, sarcastic, and direct tweets only added to the firestorm created by the president’s tweets in response to Curry, and most positively in response to Trump’s statements made at a Huntsville, Ala., rally Friday night.

Trump’s recent Twitter foray into the NFL controversy over player protests have divided fans of the NFL and hit a crescendo last night when President Trump said, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now. Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!”

The controversy began last season when then-San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick knelt during the National Anthem to demonstrate his belief that police brutality needed to stop. He felt that the discrimination against Blacks in America today was not being rightfully addressed, so he demonstrated to bring light to the issue.

And that he has.

Not only did Trump’s comments about Steph Curry’s tweet bring forth a deluge of comments across social media, but the president’s comments about the NFL last night raised the dialogue to a fevered pitch.

Bennett’s tweets follow:

Here is what Packers wide receiver Davante Adams tweeted this morning about the situation:

"We’ll “stick to football” when we see progress. Our Nations leader can’t even set a good example of how it looks to be a great American"

Packers backup quarterback Brett Hundley didn’t tweet his own message, but he certainly retweeted those who had strong words for the president

Some of them are as follows …

Even Packers fans got involved on both sides of the issue.

Corey Behnke, whose Twitter feed profile reads, “Live broadcast & streaming director/producer, co-founder @CheeseheadTV & @livexproduction,”  had this to say:

He also tweeted this:

Not only were football and basketball players moved to reaction to the president’s words, but so were the NFL Players Association, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and Golden State Warriors.

Here is what the commissioner said in a statement this morning:

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell took a very strong stance against the president by issuing a statement condemning Mr. Trump’s views:

"“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”"

The Golden State Warriors also shunned the president, releasing this official statement via Twitter:

But the backlash across the sporting world was evident.

The following are a few of the tweets that were sent out throughout the morning hours …
