3. It’s time to take Aaron Jones out of bubblewrap

There’s no minimizing how instrumental Ty Montgomery has been in the first three weeks of the season, as the offense continues to lean on him as both a runner and receiver.

While the third-year pro is a top-20 running back with 41 carries to date, he’s also tied for fifth overall in receptions among runners, wideouts and tight ends.

All of this usage begs the question: Can Montgomery sustain a similar workload going forward without breaking down?

Recent history suggests that the versatile playmaker can be susceptible to injuries given his track record of shoulder, knee and ankle ailments he’s dealt with since his Stanford days.

It might be a wise consideration to lighten Montgomery’s load by activating (and using) Aaron Jones the further they move into the heart of the season.

Jones’ skill set mirrors Montgomery’s in that he’s both tough and elusive along with featuring the versatility to line up wide and run an array of routes.

Current backup Jamaal Williams has seen sporadic touches, but profiles as more of a between-the-tackles pounder who isn’t equipped to prosper in a jack-of-all-trades role.

It might not be a bad idea to roll Jones out of the showroom versus Chicago considering how the Packers will be coming off a hard-fought win in 90-degree heat on a short week’s rest.

The fresh legs of the underutilized rookie may be just what the battered Packers need to inject a dose of adrenaline into offense.
