Packers: 5 takeaways from Week 7 loss to Saints
Aaron Jones dominates
Aaron Jones may have taken over the Packers’ backfield. It sure looked that way on Sunday, the rookie running back logging 17 carries to Ty Montgomery’s four. And the fifth-round pick made the most of his opportunities, just as he has all season. Jones ran hard for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Montgomery’s injury opened the door for Jones, and he hasn’t looked back. In four games, Jones has rushed 62 times for 346 yards and three touchdowns. He’s averaged 5.6 yards per carry and added his name to the list of rookie running back sensations around the NFL. It’s clear the Packers need to keep feeding him the football.
Jones was third on the depth chart behind Montgomery and fellow rookie Jamaal Williams entering Week 1. He didn’t have a single carry until Week 4 but is now far and away the team’s leading rusher in 2017.
The Packers appear to have found a star on the draft’s third day, and he was one of the few bright spots on offense during Sunday’s loss. For Green Bay to win games in the coming months, Jones will need to see plenty of the football.
