Green Bay Packers: 2017 midseason rookie report card
Chris Odom
Grade: C-
Week 7 was this early September addition’s opportunity he’d been waiting for considering he played a combined 17 snaps for the season up to that point.
Odom, though, didn’t quite distinguish himself in his 21 snaps versus the Saints in that he contributed one assisted tackle and zero pressures.
The undrafted rookie free agent’s lack of strength was evident on a 19-yard Alvin Kamara run in which Odom was blocked out of the ball carrier’s path by tight end Josh Hill.
It may be a while before the inexperienced outside linebacker sees 20-plus snaps again given that fellow rookie Vince Biegel is on the verge of being activated.
Odom features promising tools, including the ability to bend and effectively use his hands, but his lack of overall suddenness and strength make him prone to getting hung up on blocks.
His upside seems to be that of a serviceable reserve as long as he can hold his own on special teams.
