Royce Freeman, RB, Oregon

Note: According to Bleacher Report, Royce Freeman won’t play in the Senior Bowl due to injury.

Royce Freeman could have easily been drafted last year, but he opted to stay in school and play another year at Oregon.

I don’t view the running back position as a serious need for the Packers this offseason, thanks to the emergence of last year’s draft picks Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones. But I still believe that Green Bay should seriously consider a running back like Freeman if they were to fall.

This year’s running back class is loaded and a name like Freeman could fall farther than people would think as a result of this.

In the positional rankings of ESPN’s Mel Kiper he placed Freeman ninth among running backs.

This shows the potential that Freeman could slip as Kiper ranked several prospects at his position ahead of him.

If Freeman were to fall to the Packers in the third or fourth round, it would make some sense for them to pick him as Ty Montgomery has only a year left on his contract.

The running back position is also maybe the most injury prone position in football, and as Aaron Rodgers gets older, it makes sense to have solid depth at that position to take pressure off of him.
