Thompson’s first pick as Packers general manager was Aaron Rodgers. His second was Nick Collins. Talk about hitting a home run right out of the gates.

Collins’ career was cut short due to injury in 2011, but prior to that he earned three trips to the Pro Bowl and three All-Pro honors. Collins played a major part in the Packers’ Super Bowl victory in 2010, and in 2016 he was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

The safety made 21 interceptions in under seven full seasons with the Packers. He made just one pick in seven postseason games, but nobody will ever forget it. His first-quarter pick-six of Ben Roethlisberger gave the Packers a 14-0 lead in Super Bowl XLV. Who knows how the game would have played out had Collins not made this interception?

Collins achieved so much in the seven years he spent in Green Bay. Had he not suffered a career-ending injury, how many more honors would he have by now?

Collins was a home-run selection by Thompson in 2005, one of his finest as general manager, and a key piece in Green Bay’s last Super Bowl victory.
