2. Strengthen pass rush

What are the top two priorities for any defense? Finding a premier pass rusher and a shutdown cornerback. The fact both of these areas are major needs for the Packers tells you all you need to know about their defense.

Clay Matthews and Nick Perry are talented players. On their day they can be dominant. But the Packers’ pass rush has lacked consistency for far too long, placing additional strain on an already-struggling secondary.

How will Brian Gutekunst go about adding more talent to the pass rush?

It’s possible he’ll turn to the No. 14 pick in April’s draft. A prospect like Marcus Davenport from Texas-San Antonio could interest the Packers in the first round.

There could also be a few options in free agency. Detroit’s Ezekiel Ansah is arguably the pick of the free-agents-to-be. Ansah has been hit with injuries throughout his career, but he posted 14.5 sacks in 2015 and 12 in 2017. If he hits the market, the 28-year-old could be one to watch.

The Packers will need to add more than one edge rusher this offseason to join Matthews and Perry. They will also hope second-year Vince Biegel can return fully healthy and contribute in 2018.

Until the Packers fix their pass rush, they will continue to struggle against the league’s top offenses.
