Packers: 4 players potentially in line for contract extensions
4. Ty Montgomery
It feels like Ty Montgomery’s career has only just got started, but he’s actually entering a contract year in 2018. His talent is clear every time he steps on to the field, but his injury history is somewhat concerning. This is a big year for Montgomery, who must prove he can stay healthy.
In three years, the receiver-turned-running back has missed 19 regular season games with various injuries.

Despite that, the Packers are a better football team with him than without him. Even if Montgomery is no longer the starting running back — a job that most likely now belongs to one of Jamaal Williams or Aaron Jones — he still provides a ton of value. Montgomery can be moved around and used to create favorable matchups.
Whether utilized in the backfield or as a receiver, Montgomery will continue to be an important chess piece for Mike McCarthy moving forward.
Assuming Montgomery continues to play at a high level in 2018, there’s no doubt in my mind the Packers will make it a priority to re-sign him. It’s also possible they come to an agreement before the end of the season, just as they did with Davante Adams and Corey Linsley in December.
