Packers: 4 players potentially in line for contract extensions
3. Morgan Burnett
The Packers face a tough decision this offseason. Should they re-sign Morgan Burnett?
He’s one of the most experienced members of the Packers’ defense, is the team’s top safety and still has plenty of good football ahead of him. On the flip side, Burnett is 29-years-old, has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career and is in line for a big contract.
According to Spotrac, Burnett’s market value should see him earning around $9.8 million per year. That would easily make him one of the league’s top-10 earners at the position.

While re-signing Burnett won’t come cheap, his contract isn’t going to break the bank. For a team in win-now mode and with a number of defensive deficiencies, allowing one of the best players in the secondary to walk makes no sense.
One could argue the Packers have depth at the position. Without Burnett, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Josh Jones would likely take over the starting duties. But the same argument was made when the Packers let Casey Hayward walk out the door two years ago. How did that one turn out?
The Packers have the money to bring Burnett back, and it’s a move they should absolutely make.
