3. Shane Vereen, New York Giants

The final and oldest running back on the list is Shane Vereen.

The New York Giants back will be 29-years-old at the start of the 2018 season.

This past season Vereen was featured mostly as a third-down back. He played in all 16 games for the third time in his career. He ran for only 164 yards and caught 44 passes for 253 yards.

Despite Vereen’s inability to get into the end zone for the first time in his career, he still could provide value.

One thing Vereen has done relatively consistently in his career is be a viable passing option out of the backfield. He has compiled at least 44 catches in four of his seven seasons.

Last season the Packers’ running backs combined for only 60 receptions.

Don’t let Vereen’s rushing statistics skew your opinion on him. His highest rushing total is 391 yards, back in 2014 when he was a member of the New England Patriots.

But, he has a career average of 4.2 yards a carry. He would be used in Green Bay as a change-of-pace back and solely as another target for Aaron Rodgers.

The Giants restructured Vereen’s contact last offseason and reduced his salary by $1 million, earning a base salary of $2.1 million.

Vereen would be a cheap buy and would likely demand between $1.5-2 million a year.
