Jahri Evans

Jahri Evans was one of the only free agents the Packers hit on last year. The six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro helped fill the void left by T.J. Lang, who departed in free agency. Even at 34-years-old, Evans played well.

That said, I think the Packers will get younger at guard. Evans isn’t the same player he once was, and he will turn 35 ahead of the new season. Does he have another year in him? Possibly, but my expectation is the Packers will find a replacement.

That player could already be on the roster. Justin McCray played well as a backup in 2017. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he won the starting job in training camp. Lucas Patrick is another player the Packers could trust with the job.

They could also look to sign another veteran in free agency. And no, that doesn’t include Josh Sitton.

Quenton Nelson would have to be a consideration in the draft if he somehow fell to the No. 14 pick, although it’s unlikely he makes it that far.

Evans could easily return for another year. He will have earned it based on his performances in 2017. But I’m leaning towards the Packers moving on and forcing themselves to get younger at the position.
