Packers offseason blueprint: 5 free agency targets, mock draft
By Evan Siegel
3. CB Aaron Colvin
The Jacksonville Jaguars are beginning to realize that they can’t pay everybody. With massive contracts already given to Malik Jackson, Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye, Jacksonville will have to begin to pick and choose who they want to retain over the long haul.
With Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and Yannick Ngakuoe all set for extensions in the near future, and Allen Robinson requiring a new deal this offseason, Jacksonville will have to make a sacrifice or two. It is unlikely that the Jaguars will want to pay their third cornerback major money, so it is likely that Aaron Colvin will be on his way out.
Brian Gutekunst has an opportunity to make up for Ted Thompson’s mistakes on defense. Micah Hyde and Casey Hayward showed just how valuable they indeed were to the Packers’ defense as they excelled in their new defenses. Colvin could immediately step in and provide a better coverage presence on the back end than the team has had in recent years.
Adding Colvin would add to the growing trend of adding speed to this roster. Too often on both sides of the ball the Packers have been unable to keep up with their competition athletically. The team lacks strength, speed and pop. Adding Aaron Colvin would be a big addition for a defense that has to get faster.
Projected contract: Three years/$14 million
