Round 2, Pick 45: CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville

Other possibilities: Mike Hughes, Carlton Davis, Isaiah Oliver, DJ Moore.

The Packers need a CB at this pick if they pass on one in the first, unless a can’t-miss guy like Moore falls to them. I like the value at cornerback more in the second round than the first so I chose one here.

The Packers need help playing the pass on defense more than anything. I’m cutting straight to the chase and adding a potential starting corner with this pick. Alexander performed well at the combine and confirmed he has athleticism to match his aggressiveness. He’s the kind of guy you can expect to make plays, but will be able to recover from his mistakes.

Alexander was unable to build on a promising sophomore season due to an injury but is still projected to be an early second-round pick at the latest. There are a lot of corners in this draft that have similar grades to Alexander so the Packers may need to move a little bit to ensure they get their guy. I expect the Packers to draft at least one corner early on.

Like Landry, Alexander also comes with some injury concern. It’s unlikely the Packers take two guys with question marks on their medicals. If Gutekunst trusts what he saw at the combine this would be an awesome way to start the draft. Two picks in and the Packers have added two potential starters and guys that will be on the field on third down.
