Fantasy Football 2018: Early NFC North running back rankings
4. Jamaal Williams, Green Bay Packers
It’s unclear who will be the lead back in Green Bay this season, but Jamaal Williams proved he’s capable of taking on that role last year. The powerful runner was most effective when he was given the majority of the carries. He finished his rookie season with 556 yards and four touchdowns, but considering he only had double-digit carries in eight games, those numbers are impressive.
Williams was excellent with Brett Hundley in at quarterback, but interestingly Aaron Jones was more effective while Aaron Rodgers was playing. For that reason, Williams isn’t higher on this list.
Until it becomes clear who the lead back is in Green Bay, it’s tough to have a ton of confidence in any of the backs. It’s likely we see a timeshare between Williams and Jones. Ty Montgomery will also be in the mix. While it might work for the Packers, this would be bad news for fantasy owners.
Still, Williams proved he can take the bulk of the carries in the second half of 2017. He will be a key piece in the Packers’ offense this season, and the hope is he sees enough of the football to translate that into fantasy points.
Keep a close eye on the Packers’ backfield this summer.
